Philosophical Events of Interest

The Australian Book of Atheism

I am one of the authors in the Australian Book of Atheism released in late November 2010 – a number of launch events are being planned and I hope to be part of them at Brisbane and/or the Gold Coast. Stay tuned! So far there have been a number of radio interviews – including two with both myself and the editor, Warren Bonett on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast ABC FM radio shows on December 2.

Monthly Philosophy Evenings

We run monthly philosophy afternoons (northern Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia), usually on the 4th Saturday of each month starting at 5:00 PM and continuing until "whenever". However, as it's "usually", please check before attending if you have not received an invitation.

January 2011 Philosophy Evening:

Our next event, and the first for 2011, will be an exception to the "4th Saturday" rule and be on the 5th Saturday (29/1/11) not the 4th. Further details will be posted closer to the event.

What:

Each evening usually has a topic, either the history and philosophy of a selected civilisation, or cutting edge science with philosophical implications. Someone, usually me, gives a talk (generally 30-45 minutes) on the topic. Other than that, the meetings are just free-form discussion on anything, preferably philosophical: your thoughts on the monthly topic of course, philosophical questions raised by this site, and/or any specific questions or issues of a philosophical, scientific or religious nature. Attendees can discuss items of interest with anyone from the whole group to one particular person.

Bring:

  1. Your brain
  2. Brilliant philosophical insights welcome but not mandatory
  3. Some food to share for nibbles &/or dinner
  4. Whatever you want to drink
  5. Dressing in costume and/or bringing artifacts related to the topic is encouraged.
